Ethiopian opal and solid gold necklace, faceted tumble beads, 18k gold

Stunning Ethiopian opals of gem quality together with 18k gold beads and closure were used to make this luxurious necklace. Beads are cut in faceted tumble shape to show off the beautiful fire of the stones.
Beads measure from 4 to 6 mm to 8 to 10 mm.
Necklace length is 45 cm.

Opal is the birthstone of October. The name ‘Opal’ is derived from the Greek word opallios, which means ‘to see a change in color’.

Opal’s distinctive play of color was explained when a group of scientists discovered that it’s made up of microscopic silica spheres that diffract light and display different colors of the rainbow. These flashy gemstones are known as precious Opals, and those that don’t have the play of color are known as common Opals. This necklace is made of precious opals.
